Where Have all the Animals Gone – and more Importantly, why isn’t Anyone Talking About it?

According to a report from the World Wildlife Federation, the earth has lost half its wildlife in the past 40 years!! The report names habitat destruction and hunting as the main causes for the decline in all wildlife populations on land, in rivers and in the oceans.

Mike Barratt, director of science and policy at WWF said “We have lost one half of the animal population and knowing this is driven by human consumption, this is clearly a call to arms and we must act now,” He said more of the Earth must be protected from development and deforestation, while food and energy had to be produced sustainably.

I don’t know about you, but HALF in 40 years seems so incredibly shocking and yet, it doesn’t seem to be big news! How is this not top of the list on every news show and in every paper… We are all trying to be more sustainable – but this is a real wake up call – the future is now and we need to make a change.

There is no time like the present to make better choices in our lives, or to make our voices heard. Call your local paper and radio station and ask why they aren’t covering this – heck, call your MP.

Please check out the Guardian article and WWF Living Planet Report.

Then make a call and make it count.
